Registration is now open for the USTA February Blitz Open. This tournament will take place on Saturday, 13 February. It will start at 9 am PST (12 noon EST, 5 pm GMT) and last 3-4 hours. Registration closes on Friday, 12 February at noon PST. The tournament is free and open to all. There is a $50 dollar prize fund, with $35 going to first place and $15 going to second.
There will be 6-10 rounds (exact format depends on the number of participants). Each match will consist of a single 6×6 game with 3 komi. The time control will be 3 minutes + 5 seconds per move. More details can be found at the link above.
We hope to make these blitz tournaments a regular occurrence moving forward. The tentative plan — assuming all goes well — is to begin with one every other month for 2021 and then see where we stand.
